Nikon Coolpix S8100, Great Camera Your Money Can Buy And Good Image Quality

I bought this Nikon Coolpix S8100 to get a cruise to the western caribbean. We have Nikon DSLRs but wanted something that was small enough to fit in an important pocket with good image quality.
I’d not compare IQ to any DSLR however comes close enough for me while in the sharpness category. Dead center is spot on sharp with some softness in any corners. I am completely happy bring back since I use the DSLR pertaining to serious shots. The zoom is rather good and tops out at 300mm 35mm equiv. Startup time is pretty quick for its class. The ED lens aids in chromatic abberations seen with most cameras at this level. I took many shots using this type of camera and 90 percent came out without the post editing work needed. The meter will be good, the screen is awesome and the form factor is a popular fit for my hand and great wife’s. The Canon-like control dial over the back is nice too. It rotates nicely to move through menus.

The Coolpix S8100 is wicked cool for such a small device. I don’t use it much nevertheless it works well.

We had a Canon SD1400 IS that I got rid of because it was too small along with the IQ was horrible. It might be fine for drunk college girls except for for vacation use.

What I would wish to see in this camera:
Apeture The main ageda, Shutter Priority and RAW NEF. And perhaps a Manual mode. Regardless, the Auto setting does a great job. The nightshot scene setting can be ok. It seems to really bump up the ISO so it gets a little bit grainy. Use a tripod for good results.

Everyone seems to complain about the flash position on this camera. I found it odd initially but just learned to not put my give over the flash area. Simple enough.
Great camera your money can buy. Reliable and if it gets dropped you don’t lose lots of money on equipment.

Love it! Easy to implement. Got this camera the day before we left on vacation. So simple and we got fantastic pictures in Hillcrest. My husband thought I was getting option to much confidence in the zoom, but my pictures ended up great especially for a point in addition to shoot. My husband who has never been an image taker even started taking the video camera from me. He took great photos. So happy with the low light pictures too. Wish it had some sort of view finder, but most point and also shoots don’t. So hard to have the perfect camera at Nikon Coolpix S8100, but am real satisfied with this one.
