Will a Tamron lense 35-135mm F / 3.5 – 4.2 fit a Nikon D40 body AF-S NIKKOR ?

If not, is there an adaptor that would fit it ? I beleive (but not sure) that a Tamron will fit a Cannon and a Cannon lense will fit a Nikon body with an adaptor.
Would like to know for sure as I have seen one at a auction and I’m not sure whether to buy it or not.

The information is not 100% Tamron makes lenses for most camera mounts including Canon FD and EF as well as Nikon F. So there are SOME Tamron lenses that fit Canon, and some that fit Nikon, but not all of them fit each other.

The second problem is the adaptation. Any Canon mount lens has a relatively short registry (less than the Nikon’s 46.00mm) this means that any adaptation of Canon lenses to Nikon mount will result in the loss of infinity focus.

Furthermore modern Canon lenses do not have an aperture ring, it’s all controlled electronically, this means you will be totally unable to control the lens aperture with such a lens.

So only F-mount lenses will fit Nikon SLRs properly, and we haven’t even considered autofocus yet. In the early AF cameras the motor was in body, and this was quite common practice. Therefore any third party lens needs to be “motorised” the equivalent of AF-S or AF-I lenses.
